Private tutor in Walnut Creek, CA

Education

I have a B.A. in Writing and Rhetoric from the University of Rhode Island (2014), where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA for my major with a minor in Public Relations. I currently work as the Social Engagement Strategist in the corporate communications department of a large insurance brokerage firm where I manage over 20 social media profiles, blogs, and email correspondences. I can tutor in Walnut Creek, CA (nowhere south from there) and Marin County, CA after 5pm.

Experience

-Private tutoring experience in essay writing for various topics -SAT score 1990 total with perfect score on Writing section and 10/12 on essay; perfect score on French SAT II subject test -Have worked under a published author; under the guidance of a professional grant writer; under the guidance of a professional proposal writer at a major company (GTECH) -Won 4 different awards in my major: Linda K. Shamoon Scholarship in Public Writing; URI Class of 1939 Memorial Scholarship; Mark and Donna Ross Merit Scholarship in Arts and Sciences; & the Stephanie Bounds Award for Excellence in Writing and Rhetoric; all of which I was nominated for by members of the department -Went to a private French school through middle school and grew up in a French-speaking home; can read/write equally well in French I want to become a tutor because I want to help students not only enjoy writing but appreciate the importance of being a good writer and communicator. Writing is not difficult, but it can be hard to understand its value, and that's when people hit a block and decide they don't like it and it's pointless (which it is most certainly not). I also love French culture and understand the difficulties of learning another language. Again, the value here is tremendous, and there is no better way to learn than to communicate regularly with someone who is fully immersed in the language and culture and who displays an appreciation for it.

Hobbies

I play classical piano and used to do ballet, play tennis, and horseback ride (hunter/jumper). I love, love, LOVE all animals and would be particularly keen on tutoring your child if you also had a pet (just kidding! Kind of). When it comes to teaching and tutoring, I am patient but also stern--I expect students to meet me half way and to maintain a positive attitude about learning (as much as possible--something I am willing to help them achieve).
